About Me

To develop future leaders of Liberia who were affected by the Liberian civil crisis to influence dynamic change in a society that foster quality education, justice, equality, development, and respect for human life. The Liberian Youth Coalition also seeks to encourage conflict resolutions and sound governance around the world. What We Do: 1) Advocating for the development, progress and welfare of all Liberian youths globally. 2) Advocating for a sustainable Liberia through agriculture, individual independence, quality health care, and global participation. 3) Promoting standard education, increasing computer literacy and communication for access to the global economy, spreading awareness on health and environmental issues, and conducting social and recreational activities to build cultural differences and improve community relations.

Interests

Liberian Youth Coalition Issues:
* Poverty: We will strive to make it our commitment to help eradicate poverty within the Liberian Population.

* Computer Literacy and Technology: We believe that all Liberian youths should have equal access to the global community through basic knowledge of computer literacy and technology.

* Education and Literacy: Today, less than 25% of the Liberian population has higher education. Those mainly affected with the education stigma are youths and children, with about 50% of children having no access to education because of insufficient amount of schools. With this degrading statistics, the Liberian Youth Coalition strongly endeavors to rally every support to improve the standard of education for youths and children.

* Criminal Justice: Liberians have witnessed throughout its history that human rights violation has been an epidemic. In addition, many children were forced to take up arms during the fourteen years civil war that killed roughly 250,000 Liberians. Today, Liberians have yet to equal protection under the law. At the same time, gender equality, freedom of speech and liberty has been infringed by our society.

* Health and Environmental: When a country is poor, poverty will cause many of its citizens to live in unsuitable environments that produce diseases and harmful pollutants. These diseases and harmful pollutants affect the living conditions of those who struggle daily to live a suitable life. Our goal is to help protect our environment and make it suitable for its inhabitants.

Statistics on Health and Environment:

* Nearly 40 per cent of the population does not have access to safe water, and nearly 75 per cent does not have access to adequate sanitation.

* Statistics show an HIV/AIDS prevalence rate of 5.9 per cent; the actual rate is believed to be higher.

* Liberia's infant and under-5 mortality rates remain among the five highest in the world. More than 15 per cent of children die before reaching their first birthday.

* Preventable diseases like malaria and measles are among the leading killers of children. Malnutrition and respiratory infections kill thousands of children each year.

* Peace and Conflict Resolution: The Liberian Youth Coalition believes that all Liberians should have the opportunity to experience sustainable peace. To attain this goal, we intent to promote social relationships and dialogue within the Liberian population. We believe in friendly communities and individual participation on social issues and democracy. "Peace is Unity"
